Know the basics of wedding day makeup

There is more to wedding day make-up than just applying a little lipstick and a wave of the mascara wand. Photography and a long day of events, means that your hair and make-up will need to last up to 15 hours or more, through smiles, tears and nerves. We talk to leading Sydney hair and makeup artist Simona Munro on how to plan for optimum beauty on the wedding day:

Q How far in advance should I book my hair and makeup appointments for my wedding day?
If you're getting married on a Saturday in the peak wedding season, September to March, book at least six months in advance.

Q What sessions are essential leading up to the wedding day?
Always do a trial run before you book your make-up artist. You want your day to run smoothly and know what you're getting. On the day, it's also very important that your hair and make-up people don’t make you run late for photo sessions – it cuts into their working time and puts everyone in a stressful situation.

Q How much time should I allow on the day for both hair and makeup?
Depending on the hairstyle chosen, between one and a half to two hours per person. It is helpful if you can get both done at the same place.

Q What can I expect to pay for it?
Around $200 per head for hair and make-up for quality professionals in the cities.
